Our Net Zero Pledge

At Locogen, our vision is to "...see the world powered 100% by distributed renewable and low carbon energy; where everyone has access to affordable, sustainable energy and clean air." To deliver that vision, it is essential that we start on our own journey towards a net zero business. We have therefore made a Net Zero Pledge based on SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative). Our target is a 46.2% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, compared to 2019 base levels. This is based on SBTi targets which limit global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5°C.

Our pledge commits us to:

  1. Set and commit to deliver a greenhouse gas target in line with either a 1.5°C (encouraged) or well below 2°C climate change scenario – covering buildings and travel as a minimum.

  2. Publicly report greenhouse gas emissions and progress against this target each year.

  3. Publish one piece of research/thought-leadership each year on practical steps to delivering an economy in line with climate science and in support of net zero carbon. Alternatively, signatories may choose to provide mentoring and support for smaller signatory companies in setting targets, reporting and meeting the requirements of the pledge.

Our latest annual carbon footprint for January-December 2022 is:

  • Scope 1&2: 9.7 tCO2e or 0.15 tCO2e / employee
  • Scope 3: 42.6 tCO2e or 0.68 tCO2e / employee

When measured against our 2019 baseline, this shows a 53% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions. This is a fantastic achievement. Unfortunately our Scope 3 emissions have tripled over that period, predominantly due to the increase in staff commuting. This is linked to our growth in staff over that period. Therefore Locogen are working on a number of measures to support our staff in reducing the footprint of their commute, such as increased flexible working, cycle to work and EV lease schemes.

Locogen firmly believes that delivering a low carbon economy can be financially as well as environmentally rewarding for those organisations that commit to net zero. As we move towards our net zero goals, we will continue to regularly report here on our progress. We hope to share insights, challenges and successes as we encounter them.
