Developers

Diligent, thorough and compassionate development services to both UK-based and international developers and investors on all types of renewable electricity and low carbon heating systems.

We provide developers with support from initial site finding and screening right through to the construction and operational phases of the project. Within the development process we recognise that different levels of support are needed for different clients. Therefore, we can tailor our scope to undertake works specifically required by you, such as resource assessments, EIA planning works, procurement, due diligence, sourcing funding, construction project management and asset management.

Our approach and influence in projects, results in impressive outcomes for our clients. Whether that be from detailed feasibility studies, well thought-out design, or sourcing ample funding, we take a thorough approach to every aspect of the development process and beyond. For fully consented sites, we offer asset management which takes a similar diligent approach by not only maintaining assets, but optimising sites to reach their maximum operating potential.

Wind, Solar and Hydro Development Experience

We have a strong track record of successfully developing commercial wind, solar and hydro projects in the UK and wind and solar projects in France. Since being formed in 2009 we have grown into a company with more than 40 staff, the majority being based at our Edinburgh head office.

Since our formation, Locogen has successfully developed over 60 commercial-scale renewable energy sites from inception through to operation and completing/managing all aspects of development work. The majority of these sites have been commercial wind energy developments (see table below). This experience includes multiple sites which required planning submissions in accordance with EIA regulations, complex access issues, consideration of forestry, extended ecological survey works, community ownership and detailed community engagement.

Many of these sites were developed concurrently with, typically, 10-12 projects being developed at any one time. Property, planning, wind monitoring, financing and construction works were also undertaken concurrently. Clearly, this requires a robust and focused approach to project management across the team, particularly given the incentive accreditation deadlines that they were often working to. Over this period, Locogen not only delivered their own portfolio of operational wind, solar and hydro projects, but also delivered portfolios for other developers, along with stand-alone projects for businesses, communities, public sector organisations and local authorities.

In addition, Locogen has provided development technical support for developers, buyers, lenders and borrowers for over 300MW of wind energy projects. This includes completion of Lenders technical advisory works for several banks, including Santander, Deutsche Bank (through the European Energy Efficiency Fund), Close Leasing, Clydesdale and Triodos.

Since 2015 we have added a significant development focus in France. Locogen SAS was formally incorporated in 2016 with a focus on developing a portfolio of large-scale wind and solar projects. Locogen France is currently working with partners on a 200MW+ portfolio of predominantly wind projects. Several of these schemes are now consented (Locogen has recently secured a French CfD offer for a recent consent) or have planning submitted. The works undertaken in France have demonstrated Locogen’s ability to successfully enter into strong partnerships and collaborate to develop a large portfolio of high-quality renewable energy projects.
