Energy Storage
Storing surplus electricity to optimise self-consumption
Why choose Energy Storage?
When a renewable energy system generates more energy than a building requires, the surplus is spilled back onto the grid. By storing your surplus electricity in a battery and using it at times when your energy demand is higher than your generation, you can reduce your reliance on grid-electricity and create energy savings.
What energy storage options are there?
Commercial batteries can be retrofitted to existing renewable energy systems, or installed in parallel with a new project.
If you don’t have an existing renewable energy system but have a high demand for electricity, then charging batteries through the night at a lower rate and offsetting energy use through the day (known as ‘arbitrage’) is also a viable option.
For both behind-the-meter and standalone projects, you can also earn revenue from National Grid by providing Balancing Services to the network.
