Community

Overview

Push your grassroots project from dream to reality.

Join the growing number of communities enjoying better energy security and long-term income streams from local renewables projects.

Like many community groups, you may have the drive and enthusiasm for your renewables scheme, but find the technical challenges daunting. Without technical know-how, it can be difficult to access funding for feasibility studies, or to secure planning and grid connections for a stand-alone project.

We have 15 years experience of working on communities’ behalf to overcome these hurdles and make schemes happen. Outside their day jobs, many of our team have served on the boards of community energy projects.

We put our technical and market knowledge at your disposal, while working closely and sensitively with all local stakeholders to ensure your project’s success.

10-year collaboration pays off

A 900kW community wind turbine in Lionthorn, Falkirk, will provide up to £1.2m in community benefit payments, while generating enough electricity to power 715 homes annually. We worked with project partners for almost a decade to bring the project to fruition.

Securing Knoydart’s supply

The Knoydart peninsula is not connected to the national electricity grid. As part of a wider project for the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme, we modelled the community’s future energy needs, and evaluated a range of renewable options to bolster energy security.

Powering an island

The Isle of Muck Community Enterprise owns and runs an electricity grid serving the island. We advised on changes required to support increased electricity loads in future. We made recommendations for current, near-future and medium term demands, including wind, solar PV and battery capacity.
