With the de facto ban on onshore wind in England now lifted, there is renewed optimism for new onshore wind projects in England and how these can help the achieve the UK’s net zero target by 2030.

There is currently around 2.86GW of operational onshore wind capacity in England which represents 40% of capacity needed to achieve the 20230 target of 7GW. This provides a significant opportunity for new developments but a number of factors need to be considered.

In our latest webinar our experts, David-Linsley-Hood, Technical Director, Ian McLean, Associate Director and Iain McMillan, Head of Planning and Environment discussed:

  • Key grid changes and why they’re important to onshore wind in England
  • Turbine availability and scale – what are manufacturers currently offering that would suit English wind sites?
  • How does turbine availability and scale connect to emerging development opportunities?
  • Site spacing – previously assumed turbine-turbine spacing that manufacturers will accept can be reduced but what is the impact in terms of losses and other considerations?
  • Challenges for planning wind developments in England
