Andy Lyle, Locogen CEO

Congratulations to Andy, who has just been re-elected to the Scottish Renewables Board

We’re delighted that our CEO, Andy Lyle, has been elected to the Scottish Renewables board for a second three-year term.

Andy was first elected to the Scottish Renewables board in 2017 and since then has been working hard with Scottish Renewables on many issues, including the closure of the FIT & ROC ,and heat sector policy. His input here has been valuable, at a time when we are seeing major change brought about by huge shifts in revenue supports. He has also been working to help address the urgent need for new models to support the acceleration of heat decarbonisation – a vital sector if we are to meet our 2045 net-zero targets.

In 2019 Andy was appointed vice-chair of Scottish Renewables and he also serves as chair of the finance committee. Scottish Renewables is a small business and his experience of running his own SME (Locogen) also makes an important contribution.

Going forward, onshore wind and solar will be crucial to delivering on our net-zero targets and Andy will be working towards a fair system to enable our industry to develop subsidy-free projects at scale.

Andy will also use his position to emphasise the importance of heat as we move towards net zero. He says: “I believe we are at a crucial point for low carbon heat, which needs clear policy support and long-term commitments from the Scottish and UK governments to ensure we tackle the enormous task of decarbonising our buildings and industry.”

Now re-elected, Andy is keen to continue working on these areas, ensuring that the Fourth National Planning Framework (NPF4) contributes to a positive planning regime for renewables, and that the business rates review for hydro is positive.

Much work is ongoing at Scottish Renewables to secure a framework capable of delivering the significant additional onshore wind and solar development that we need in Scotland. Andy’s re-election provides some valuable continuity at Scottish Renewables to help get this work done.

We are proud of the hard work Andy does at Scottish Renewables to benefit our industry and help deliver a net-zero future for Scotland.

Congratulations, Andy!
