Grid Connection Gate 2 Readiness Declarations Open

After all the discussions and guessing, the first real actions of the CP30 grid reforms are here, and sitting tight is no longer an option.

Under CMP435, projects are now being sorted by Readiness and Strategic Alignment through a one-time Gate 2 process. If your embedded generation or storage project (above the TIA threshold) connects to the distribution network, you must act now to secure your place, or be pushed back to Gate 1.

To stay in the queue, you’ll need to submit a Readiness Declaration that proves your project is viable and strategically aligned. That means:

  • Evidence of land rights or planning progress
  • Confirmation of your connection agreement details
  • Technology type and capacity
  • Evidence of meeting Queue Management Milestones (yes, even if already confirmed)
  • Alignment to the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, or applying for designation or protections

If you fail to submit anything, you will lose your current position and fall back to Gate 1, potentially delaying your grid connection for years.

Each DNO will decide the format and process for submissions. NESO has issued a declaration template for early guidance, but you’ll need to check with your network operator for exact requirements.

The window is open, but the closing deadline is not yet confirmed. Waiting it out is not a strategy. If you have any concerns, raise them early.

For full details you can view to NESO Evidence Handbook.
