Ground-mounted solar

Overview

Today’s large-scale solar plants have the potential to offer an attractive revenue stream, but understanding the complex factors involved in developing a successful solar project takes skill.

Regulatory backing, technological innovations and ambitious growth targets are all favourable and the opportunity is immense.

Ground-mounted solar farms will form a key part of the UK’s future energy. It’s now one of the cheapest forms of electricity generation, and the UK government has pledged to triple the UK’s solar power capacity by 2030.

We have extensive experience in developing solar photovoltaic (PV) projects throughout the UK and in France. Our profound knowledge of this market is based on contributing at every stage to successful schemes of all sizes.

Key Features

Helping you optimise your solar project

We’ve streamlined our solar site identification process so we can efficiently screen areas within 10km of an identified grid connection for solar opportunities.

Large manufacturers

We’ve assessed the asset portfolios of more than 20 big industrial energy users across the UK for our developer client, prioritising projects with fewest risks.

North West and South of England

We’re identifying opportunities for large-scale (over 10MW) ground-mounted solar in two regions, including financial assessment, identifying land, reviewing local authority development plans and solar yield analysis.

Consent services

As planning agent for a variety of solar portfolios, with sites in England, Wales and Scotland, we cover planning, ecology, archaeology and peat for projects ranging in size from 200kw to 90MW.

Grid works

Our client is developing a portfolio of English solar farms. We identified suitable sites, with a focus on affordable grid connection with few delay risks. Around 100MW has been secured across four sites, all but one with confirmed connection dates before 2026.

Site acquisition

Our client planned to acquire a 42MW consented solar PV project in South-West England.  We completed successful acquisition due diligence, working closely with the client to identify risks and opportunities to maximise performance.

Feasibility studies

For a client considering two ground-mounted solar PV sites of around 50 hectares, we carried out constraints assessments, engaging with ecologists and environmentalists. We provided preliminary design, yield studies and financial models, and advised on integration with the client’s energy network project.
