Harness a powerful emerging fuel source.
Green hydrogen is set to play a crucial role in our future energy system. It’s fast becoming a key element in wider renewable strategies – helping to unlock longer-duration energy storage, and to commercialise grid-constrained projects.
Locogen’s clients are forging ahead with innovative schemes to understand the potential benefits of hydrogen for powering their businesses and are laying the groundwork for commercial hydrogen production.
Green hydrogen’s fast-evolving nature may seem challenging, but many promising projects are well under way. With a track record in securing innovation funds, we can help you target vital support from the UK government’s Hydrogen Allocation Rounds.
One area we’re focused on is co-locating hydrogen production with existing renewable generation sites . This can overcome the challenge of grid constraints while facilitating a distributed energy economy.
One of the main challenges of generating green hydrogen by electrolysis is meeting the water demands required, particularly in water-scarce areas or without competing with drinking water supplies. We’re investigating the use of seawater, disused quarry water, rainwater and agricultural wastewater.
Our team is exploring the feasibility of a flexible mobile system that could produce green hydrogen across multiple onshore solar and/or wind sites. This would allow the use of power otherwise wasted where a grid export agreement is less than installed capacity.
Deployment of remote rural green hydrogen production for off-road vehicles used in agriculture and forestry is another of our projects. This is one of the high priority use cases in the so-called ‘hydrogen pyramid’ for replacing fossil fuels.

Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery commissioned us to deliver a ground-breaking solution to create clean fuel for its distillation process. The innovation is driven by a green hydrogen hub linked to a single 1MW wind turbine.
This 1 – 4MW electrolyser scheme will deliver renewable hydrogen production, storage and supply – chiefly for road transport – in North East Scotland. We’re providing core technical support. The project is now securing terms with anchor customers, while developing a business case to meet wider regional demand.
We’re working with partners on four projects to investigate co-locating hydrogen production facilities with onshore solar and wind developments. With our partners, we secured funding from the Scottish Government’s Emerging Energy Technologies Fund.
