Consent granted for solar & battery project at Loch Fergus

This week, Locogen welcomed the announcement that the Scottish Government has granted permission for the Loch Fergus project in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Loch Fergus scheme adds to our growing pipeline of projects in Scotland, which include our previously consented Benthead and Glenniston projects. Developed alongside our development partner Aukera UK, the project is due to come on stream in 2026.

The site will be capable of producing enough clean energy to power over 13,600 homes, equating to approximately 19,000 tonnes of carbon savings per year. In addition, the project will incorporate numerous biodiversity enhancements including new hedgerow planting and enhancement whilst providing shelter and food resources for local wildlife.

Stuart Hamilton, Head of Development at Locogen commented, “We are delighted to have received planning approval for Loch Fergus which marks a significant milestone for the project. A big thank you to the entire team involved in getting the project to this stage and we look forward taking the next steps towards construction and operation.”

Richard Hillam, Aukera UK’s Development Director said, “this is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in this project and a continuation of our successful partnership with Locogen”Hillam added, “Scotland’s central and local governments are yet again demonstrating the country’s desire to rapidly decarbonise”.
